Standard Form Notation
Positive indices and standard form - homework

Important to remember:

  • to translate from standard form notation to ordinary form we have to multiply the decimal by 10 (as many times as requested); when we multiply by 10 the decimal moves one place to the right
  • to translate from ordinary form to standard form we are working backwards: first we put the decimal point behind the first digit and to get the power of ten we count how many places we moved the decimal point.

Exercise 1: Write as ordinary numbers:

1)  6.248 * 103
2)  6.45 * 106
3)  8.75 * 109
4)  1.381 * 102
5)  3.1 * 108
6)  5.06 * 103
7)  2.15 * 107
8)  4.65 * 102
9)  6.01 * 104
